Once again, students at the Seaside Neighborhood School won the 2013 Emerald Coast BEST Robotics competition held on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the University of West Florida.
BEST stands for Boosting Engineering and Science Technology and is a competition organized to bring together more than 850 middle and high schools and over 18,000 students from around the country. Fourteen Northwest Florida schools participated in the preliminary competition at West Florida.
In the course of six weeks, students at SNS built a robot to perform tasks required by the competition.
“Seeing their passion is what makes me come to work everyday,” said Seaside Robotics Coordinator and Teacher, Courtney Krick. “They have embraced the best robotics program, and they have taken complete ownership. I’m there as their guide and it amazes me what they’re able to accomplish in these six weeks.”
The winning Seaside Neighborhood School team will compete against other regional winners at the South’S BEST in Auburn on December 7- 28, 2013. Last year, they earned a fourth place finish at the regional competition. This year, their aiming for first.
Electives like the robotics program are made possible by donors and Race participants to the Seaside School Foundation.
